Generally, the thickness limit values of different laser cutting machines for cutting various materials are as follows:

1. The maximum cutting thickness of different materials for 500W laser cutting machine: the maximum thickness of carbon steel is 6mm; the maximum thickness of stainless steel is 3mm; the maximum thickness of aluminum plate is 2mm; the maximum thickness of copper plate is 2mm.
2. The maximum thickness of different materials for 1000W laser cutting machine: carbon steel maximum thickness 10mm; stainless steel maximum thickness 5mm; aluminum plate maximum thickness 3mm; copper plate maximum thickness 3mm.
3. The maximum thickness of different materials cut by 2000W laser cutting machine: the maximum thickness of carbon steel is 16mm; the maximum thickness of stainless steel is 8mm; the maximum thickness of aluminum plate is 5mm; the maximum thickness of copper plate is 5mm.

The power level is also very basic factor for the quality of the cutting edge. More powerful machine can give a better cutting surface relatively. Of course, the cutting machine itself, cutting environment, auxiliary gas, cutting speed and other factors also affect the smoothness of the cutting edges.

4500W laser is able to cut stainless steel up to 20mm, but the quality of the cutting edge for the thickness above 12mm is not guaranteed. The cutting capacity of 6000W will be better, but the price is much higher.
In the actual process, the cutting ability is also related to the quality of the cutting machine, laser type, cutting environment, cutting speed and other factors. The use of auxiliary gas can also improve a certain cutting ability, so there is no absolute rules that can judges the cutting thickness. For example, the cutting of carbon steel mainly depends on oxygen combustion, and the cutting of stainless steel mainly depends on power. Generally, the 1000w laser cutting machine can cut carbon metal sheets of the thickness about 10mm, and stainless sheets are slightly difficult to cut. If the cutting thickness is to be increased, the edge effect and speed must be sacrificed.
